I Bought a Property in Egypt / They Give You the Property – The Story Behind The Viral Meme

I Bought a Property in Egypt” is a video that was posted by influencer Cam Easty, a.k.a. Cameron Eastwood or CamEasty, on August 12th, 2024.

“I bought a property in Egypt, and what they do for you is they give you the property.”

The sentence, by itself, is devoid of any logic and meaning, and it became a means to mock hustle culture in December 2024. The video soon became a hot trending meme on social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok and joined the hot memes of January 2025, including Chopped Chin and Eye of Rah memes. The video became part of absurd videos that were characteristic of Instagram’s Hood Irony community.

The Story Behind the Viral “I Bought a Property in Egypt” Meme

As of January 2025, the video is not available on the Instagram handle of the original content creator Cam Easty’s Instagram or TikTok accounts, and in all probability, he had deleted it.

However, on December 1st, 2024, TikToker [4] @cameastyreels reposted the video, albeit with some editing, and now the video read, “I bought a property in Egypt, and what they do for you is they give you the property.”

This time, the video raked in over 6 million plays and 749,300 likes in a month.
