I-League 2023-24: Gokulam Kerala secures three points with a last-minute victory over Aizawl in Kozhikode

Gokulam Kerala FC emerged victorious in a thrilling encounter against Aizawl FC, with Matija Babovic scoring twice in a 4-3 win. The match, held at the EMS Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode, saw Gokulam move to the third spot in the I-League 2023-24 table.

The match witnessed a back-and-forth affair, with Babovic scoring in the 29th and 64th minute for Gokulam, while Nikola Stojanovic and Pitu Viera also found the back of the net. On the other hand, Lalbiakdika and Lalrinzuala scored for Aizawl, with Gokulam’s Akhil P. scoring an own goal.

Gokulam Kerala now sits in third place in the I-League table, with 36 points from 20 matches, while Aizawl FC remains clear of the relegation zone with 21 points from 18 games.

Despite Aizawl taking an early lead through Lalbiakdika in the 20th minute, Gokulam quickly equalized through a goal from Babovic. The home side then took the lead just before halftime, courtesy of Stojanovic’s strike.

In the second half, Gokulam continued their dominance as Babovic and Viera added to their tally. Though Aizawl managed to pull one goal back through Lalrinzuala, Gokulam held on for a thrilling victory.

Tensions were high towards the end of the match, with one of Gokulam Kerala’s support staff being sent off for dissent. The win sees Gokulam Kerala FC strengthen their position in the league standings, showcasing their attacking prowess and determination on the field.
