I-League 2023-24: Mohammedan Sporting make short work of TRAU to move up
Mohammedan Sporting Club Secures 2-0 Win Over TRAU FC
Kalyani, Feb 17 (IANS) – Mohammedan Sporting Club secured a 2-0 victory over TRAU FC at the Kalyani Municipal Stadium on Saturday, with Eddie Hernandez scoring a goal in added time at the end of each half. Hernandez’s goals in the 45+1 and 90-1 minutes helped Mohammedan Sporting consolidate their position at the top of the I-League table.
Currently, Mohammedan Sporting has 34 points from 15 matches, with 10 wins, four draws, and one loss. On the other hand, TRAU FC finds themselves at the bottom of the 13-team table, with only seven points from 14 matches.
The Black and White Brigade from Kolkata had hit a poor run of form before returning to winning ways in their last match against Rajasthan United FC earlier this week. On Saturday, they continued their momentum and were dominant from the outset, controlling the lion’s share of possession and the tempo of the game.
The cohesive and unified approach to attacking play was a highlight for Mohammedan Sporting, as demonstrated in the 15th minute of the match when they enjoyed a synchronised movement in a scoring attempt.
After the lemon break, TRAU came out with a renewed sense of purpose, trying to find an equaliser. However, Mohammedan Sporting sealed the match in their favor in the added minutes of the second half, with Hernandez scoring his second goal.
The win marks Mohammedan Sporting’s second successive victory after facing setbacks in the second leg of the season, further solidifying their position at the top of the I-League table.
Overall, Mohammedan Sporting’s dominant performance and cohesive attacking play were the key factors in their victory over TRAU FC.
