IAMAI urges Google to reinstate Bharatmatrimony, Info Edge, Shaadi.com, and TrulyMadly
New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has criticized Google for removing Indian companies’ apps and demanded for the reinstatement of those delisted apps on its Play Store. The association objected to the removal of apps like Bharatmatrimony, Info Edge, Shaadi.com, and TrulyMadly as unfair and disproportionate.
Info Edge Founder Sanjeev Bikhchandani expressed compliance for now while emphasizing the need for a Digital Public Infrastructure for app stores. IAMAI has called on Google to urgently reinstate the apps and engage with industry bodies for mutually agreeable solutions.
Google responded by stating that some companies have not paid for the value they receive on Google Play and as a result, were removed as part of enforcing new policies. IAMAI, a non-profit industry body representing 580 companies, including Indian and multinational corporations, and startups, is calling for consultations to resolve the issue.
In addition, the Alliance of Digital India Foundation (ADIF), a policy think-tank for homegrown startups, condemned Google’s actions, stating that the tech giant is attempting to intimidate developers challenging its policies. The situation remains unresolved as both sides continue to engage in discussions.
