ICMR’s budget increases four-fold in the past decade, announces Mansukh Mandaviya
New Delhi, March 2 – Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya announced at the ICMR-convened Governing Council Meeting that the budgetary allowance for the Indian Council of Medical Research has increased four-fold in the last 10 years. The meeting aimed to discuss recent contributions, initiatives, and future roadmap for medical research.
Mandaviya emphasized the government’s commitment and ICMR’s efforts will establish India as a global leader in medical research. Key achievements noted include extending coverage to over 100 districts through the National Health Research Programme and establishing centers of excellence for product development and benchtop testing.
The initiative also focuses on promoting the ‘Make in India’ medtech sector and AI-based health solutions. Mandaviya praised ICMR’s research advancements and urged adaptation to meet global expectations in medical innovation. The MedTech Mitra initiative was also highlighted for supporting the development of indigenous medical devices.
In alignment with the Prime Minister’s initiatives, the ICMR successfully filled over 1,200 vacancies. The meeting showcased the government’s support and encouragement for medical research and development, emphasizing India’s position as a leader in the field.
