The character joker is loved all around the world. Since the first batman, there have been many versions of Batman. Still, Joaquin Phoenix’s character really made an impact on society giving birth to many memes and fan theories that are still circulating around. However, popular actor Willem Dafoe was actually in talks to play Joker in Tim Burton’s “Batman”. Plus, how he portrayed his Green Goblin character in Spiderman movie received a lot of positive reviews. His instantly recognizable features, particularly his expression, getting into the character’s skin made him an obvious choice.

Last year Willem Dafoe reprised his role of Green Goblin in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and re-ignited the ruler he cast in the role of Joker.

The “Willem Dafoe for Joker” fan theory has been going on for a while now. During an interview with GQ in January 2022, Dafoe admitted to being aware of all the fan theories, in fact, people have been nudging him regarding the joker role since the early 00s.

“There is something interesting about, like, if there was a Joker imposter,” he said on his take on the role— or, rather, a fake Joker. “So it would be possible to have not dueling Jokers but someone that [claims] to be the Joker that isn’t the Joker.”

Dafoe also revealed his ideal dance partner for such a movie, and it’s none other than Joaquin Phoenix, the star of Todd Phillips’ “Joker.”

“And that kind of opens up the possibility of an interesting story, particularly if you had Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’, and then you had someone who was either imitating or riffing off what he did,” Dafoe said. “I fantasized about that. But other than that I am not talking to anybody [about it], you’re the first one.”

As of now, the Joker sequel is in the pipeline. Joker writers Todd Phillips and Scott Silver have had a similar idea. Phillips stated the work has begun on follow-up with a shot of the script’s front page on their Instagram page.
