The character joker is loved all around the world. Since the first Batman, there have been many versions of the iconic fictional character. Still, Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix’s characters really made an impact on society giving birth to many memes and fan theories that are still circulating around. However, popular actor Willem Dafoe has also always been in talks to play Joker. Plus, the way he portrayed the Green Goblin character in Spiderman movie received a lot of positive reviews.

His instantly recognizable features, particularly his expression, getting into the character’s skin made him an obvious choice. 

Last year, Willem Dafoe returned to his iconic role as the Green Goblin in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ re-ignite the demand on social media to see him in Joker’s costume.

Upon observing the facial features, it becomes evident how naturally Willem Dafoe could embody the role of a joker. His facial expressions, combined with his body posture, convincingly lend themselves to the portrayal.

The “Willem Dafoe for Joker” fan theory has been circulating for quite some time now. In a January 2022 interview with GQ, Dafoe acknowledged his awareness of these fan speculations. In fact, people have been hinting at the possibility of him taking on the Joker role since the early 2000s.

Regarding his perspective on the role, he remarked, “There is something interesting about, like, if there was a Joker imposter.” He suggested the concept of a character who claims to be the Joker but isn’t the joker, presenting the intriguing prospect of a story involving such a figure.

Dafoe also shared his ideal co-star for such a movie—none other than Joaquin Phoenix, who portrayed the titular character in Todd Phillips’ “Joker.” He mused, “And that kind of opens up the possibility of an interesting story, particularly if you had Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker,’ and then you had someone who was either imitating or riffing off what he did.” Dafoe revealed that he had fantasized about this concept, adding, “But other than that, I am not talking to anybody [about it]. You’re the first one.”

At present, a sequel to “Joker” is in development. The film’s writers, Todd Phillips and Scott Silver, have entertained a similar idea. Phillips confirmed that work on the follow-up has commenced, sharing an image of the script’s cover page on their Instagram account.
