Income Tax Department Launches New e-Portal for Filing ITRs

New Delhi, April 4 (IANS) – The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) announced on Thursday that taxpayers can now file their Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the Assessment Year 2024-25 starting from April 1, 2024, covering the Financial Year 2023-24. The ITR-1, ITR-2, and ITR-4 forms are readily available on the e-filing portal for taxpayers to submit their returns.

Companies are also able to file their ITRs using the ITR-6 form from April 1 onwards. The CBDT had notified the ITR forms early, with ITRs 1 and 4 announced on December 22, 2023, ITR-6 on January 24, 2024, and ITR-2 on January 31, 2024.

To assist e-Return Intermediaries (ERI), the JSON Schema for ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-4, and ITR-6, along with the Schema of Tax Audit Reports, have been made available for A.Y. 2024-25 on the e-filing portal’s downloads section. As of now, approximately 23,000 ITRs for A.Y. 2024-25 have already been filed.

The CBDT mentioned that the facility to file ITRs 3, 5, and 7 will soon be accessible. This move marks the first time in recent years that the Income Tax Department has enabled taxpayers to submit their returns on the first day of the new financial year, aiming for a more efficient tax filing process.
