Increased Female Workforce Integral for India to Achieve $7 Trillion Economy
New Delhi, March 4 (IANS) – India’s ambition to reach a $7 trillion economy hinges on boosting women’s participation in the workforce by 50 percent, as per an expert. Despite many Indian women working, most are in unorganised sectors, with under 30 percent in organised industries.
Sachin Alug, CEO of NLB Services, stressed that closing the gender gap and integrating women across sectors, from agriculture to technology, can drive economic growth. Factors like lack of education, pay disparity, and societal barriers hinder women’s involvement, especially in male-dominated fields.
“Empowering women is not just a moral duty; it’s crucial for India’s prosperity,” Alug stated. He highlighted the potential for an 8 percent GDP growth if women make up half of the upcoming workforce by 2030. Collaboration among individuals, businesses, academia, and government is vital for achieving gender equality.
Alug further emphasized the importance of offering women opportunities for skill development, particularly in sectors like manufacturing and technical roles such as data science. Encouraging diversity, ensuring safety, and providing flexibility are ways companies are bridging the gender gap and aiding India’s economic growth goal.
“Increasing women’s presence in traditionally male-dominated sectors is key to narrowing the gender disparity and propelling India toward a $7 trillion economy by 2030,” Alug concluded. Industry experts agree that a collective effort is needed to empower women and drive the nation’s economic success.
