India and Korea can play a key role in reshaping the global order: EAM Jaishankar

India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar expressed confidence in the India-Republic of Korea partnership, highlighting its potential impact in the Indo-Pacific region. Addressing the Korea National Diplomatic Academy in Seoul, he emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to shape the global order in a more uncertain world.

Jaishankar underscored the common challenges faced by both countries, such as terrorism and WMD proliferation, emphasizing the mutual benefit of working together. With India’s growing stakes in the Indo-Pacific region, ensuring stability and security is crucial. The minister is in Seoul to co-chair the 10th Joint Commission Meeting between the two countries.

The Republic of Korea’s Indo-Pacific Strategy focuses on inclusiveness, trust, and reciprocity, laying the foundation for closer partnerships. Jaishankar stressed the need for enhanced bilateral engagement, including political and strategic discussions. He also called for expediting the review of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to strengthen economic ties.

Negotiations on the CEPA, aimed at promoting economic exchanges, are expected to conclude by 2024. Jaishankar highlighted India’s growth prospects and attractiveness to Korean businesses, citing the country’s post-Covid rebound and innovation culture. He emphasized the importance of identifying common interests and collaborating effectively for mutual benefit.
