India Experiences its Hottest March in 122 Years: IMD Report

This year, India experienced its hottest march since 1901. The temperature broke the 121-year-old record. This has been revealed by the Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday, April 2, 2022.

During the review meeting of the department, it came to know that in March 2022, the maximum temperature of the country was 1.86°C above normal.

The Northwest states, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and the National Capital Territory recorded their highest average maximum, with central India, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh recording their second warmest month in terms of daytime temperatures since 1901.

The mean, mean maximum and mean minimum temperatures for the entire country during March 2022 were 26.67°C, 33.10 °C, and 20.24 °C respectively.

Before that between 1981 and 2010, the average mean, mean maximum, and mean minimum temperatures of the country were 31.24 °C, 18.87 °C, and 25.06 °C.

In northwest India, the mean maximum temperature in March was 3.91 °C above normal. Along with this, the country recorded its third lowest average rainfall since 1901. Overall, the country recorded 8.9 mm of rain, which is 71% less than the Long Period Average (LPA) of 30.4 mm recorded between 1961 and 2010.

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature of the month was reported on Thursday, which was 39.5 °C.

Climate Change is the Main Reason

According to a TOI report, the last two decades have also been warm globally. Climate change plays an important role in this. You can understand from this that in the last few years we have experienced more unseasonal heat, cold and rain than usual.
