India–Pakistan ICC T20 Fixture Draws A Crowd Of 34,000 Cricket Fans, India Wins In A Low Scoring But Tense Match

Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, United States, was the unlikely venue for the match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan.

For three hours, a crowd of 34,000 cricket fans from the Indian subcontinent mingled amid rain and sunshine in a festive atmosphere in New York to witness a low-scoring but nail-biting match between two of the greatest cricketing nations.

Amid tight security, the mood was festive and jubilant in the temporary stadium in Nassau County, where India won by 6 runs in a highly anticipated showdown.

Cricket may not be very popular in the US, and at this time of the year, Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, NY, where the temporary cricket stadium was erected, was a place for picnics and enjoying a warm weekend afternoon.

However, the place was turned into a cricket jamboree.

The Indian supporters were dressed in their usual blue and orange, while the Pakistani fans were dressed in green.

The temporary stadium was built in just three months and it created history when it became the venue for the most anticipated match of the T20 Cricket World Cup: India versus Pakistan.

The Pakistan and India match is a closely watched match with viewers across the world running into millions.

The scene at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, was no different, with fans boisterously cheering their home teams, shouting, and waving signs and flags.

The event was marred by rain a few times, but no playing time was lost, and the match continued for its full quota of 20+20 overs.

Chandu Talla, an India fan and entrepreneur from Tampa, Fla., who came to the match with his son Aryan, a high school junior, told New York Times,

“It was electric. We paid $2,500 per ticket and had no regrets. It was a dream come true to see India here.”

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the toss and put India into bat. The Indian team made 119 runs with Rishabh Pant being the highest scorer. However, the Pakistani team could not capitalize on a solid start and kept losing wickets until the team fell short of the target of 119 by six runs.

India bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who was named the player of the subject match, said,

“It was pretty good. Whenever India and Pakistan play, a lot of emotion comes in. It did feel like we had a lot of support.”
