Indian Consulate 'strongly' raises Jaahnavi Kandula's case with US authorities

The Indian consulate in Seattle has raised concerns over the killing of Indian student Jaahnavi Kandula in the US. The case has been referred to the Seattle City Attorney’s office for review after the King’s County Prosecutor’s Office declined to press charges against the officer involved.
Kandula, a student at Northeastern University, was tragically killed by a Seattle Police vehicle driven by officer Kevin Dave. The incident occurred at a pedestrian crossing on January 23 last year. Despite chirping his siren, Dave collided with Kandula, causing her death.
The King County Prosecuting Attorney cited a lack of evidence to pursue criminal charges in the case. However, the Indian Consulate is closely monitoring the progress and is in touch with Kandula’s family representatives to ensure justice is served.
The Coalition of Hindus of North America expressed shock and disappointment over the lack of charges in Kandula’s case, emphasizing the need for justice for the young international student. Kandula’s untimely death has deeply impacted communities in King County and beyond.
Kandula’s mother, a single parent struggling to make ends meet, had taken out a loan to support her daughter’s education in the US. Kandula was set to graduate in 2023 with a Master of Science in Information Systems from Northeastern University, highlighting the promising future that was tragically cut short.
