India's first MotoGP to be held in Noida's Buddh International Circuit in 2023

Moto GP, the world’s premier motorcycle event is all set to enter India. The event is to be held at Buddh International Circuit in Noida next year. This will be the first time the MotoGP event will happen in India.

As for the ticket price, they are “very much affordable” as the organizer wants that the event should be accessible to everybody with maintaining its exclusivity, said Pushkar Nath, Chief Operating Officer of Noida-based race promoters Fairstreet Sports, on Wednesday.

Dorna Sports, the company that owns the commercial rights for MotoGP, has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Fairstreet Sports to hold the championship in India for the next seven years.

Well, this is not exactly the first time a racing event will be held in India. Earlier, Formula One, the car racing championship, organized an “Indian Grand Prix” from 2011 to 2013 at Buddh International Circuit.

But later they decided to leave the country for good. The reason is they had to pay higher taxes because they are classified by the Indian government as entertainment but not sports.

Back in 2012, the ticket price for Indian Grand Prix started from Rs 3,000 and ended at Rs 21,000. On being asked about the departure of Formula One on high taxes, Nath replied: “If you see the latest updates from the government, motorcycle racing has been identified as a sporting event now. Earlier, it was not…I am thankful that it is not classified as a sporting event.” He also said that the company has requested the Indian government to appoint a designated person as a “single point of contact” to discuss issues regarding MotoGP.

In the released statement, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that it is a matter of great pride for the state to host such a globally prestigious mega sports event.

“Not only will the event boost the hospitality and tourism sectors, but it will also put UP on the global platform. Our government will provide all the necessary support to make this event a huge success,” he added.
