Noida– Lately Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is taking many taking a lot of projects in order to improve the connectivity for the Noida International Airport in Jewar. Recently the officials have planned a pod taxi or say Personalised Rapid Transit (PRT) in the airport. The YEDIDA has finalized the bid document for the pod taxi project and asked to revise the (DPR) detailed project report.

The tender for the project will be initiated soon by the authority. Personal rapid transit (PRT) systems or say Pod taxis are more like public transportation that is made of small, automated cars used to transport the public on demand. Mostly these vehicles are electric and driverless. It has the capacity to hold at least 4 people in one go. These taxis usually run on elevated rails i.e. dedicated guideways, used to direct cars to the desired destination. London, Dubai and Singapore to name a few are places that is already been using the pod taxi system.
In Noida, the pod taxi system will help in connecting International Airport to Sector-21 Film City. According to the current plan, 12 stations have been proposed for a 14.6 km route, it will pass through Apparel Park, Handicraft Park, industrial units in Sector 32, MSME Park in Sector 29 and Toy Park in Sector 33. It will end in Sector-21 Film City. The project will be India’s first pod taxi service and is worth Rs 800 crore, the tender will be invited from June this year. Earlier, a detailed presentation of 18 proposed PRT and functional projects from different countries was made by YEIDA and the authority. They will be submitting the report to the UP government soon. The project is already making headlines in the media, it will be interesting to see how it comes out.
