International Chess Day is observed on the 20th of July every year. The day is celebrated to recognize the FIDE (Federation Internationale des Eches) also goes by the name World Chess Federation Day. It can be played by anyone regardless of age and gender as well as anywhere. FIDE was originally formed in 1924 by France. It is also known as The Global Chess Alliance. It was formed by notable public chess corporations of Czechoslovakia, Poland, Argentina, Romania, Switzerland, and Spain to name a few. Later, FIDE started conducting international chess competitions globally to highlight the game.

• The word (Checkmate) is derived from a  Persian phrase (Shah Mat) that means King is dead. 
• The clock that is being used in the game of Chess was first built in 1883. The first mechanical clock was built in Great Britain by Thomas Wilson.
