History

In 1999, the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth in Lisbon Presented a proposal to celebrate The proposal of celebrating International Youth Day every year to highlight the issues of youths and for their encouragement. United Nations General Assembly accepted this proposal and declared 12 August as International Youth Day. And the first International Youth Day was celebrated in the same year, 1999.

Significance and Importance

The aim of the day is to aware all the countries around the world, that there is a need to pay attention to the requirement of their Youths like – Skillful Education, and Employment. As Unemployment is at its peak, youths are suffering from a lot of problems to make a happy living. It is the duty of the government to help them on their way from their education to become self-reliant.

Activities

  • Contact popular local/national radio stations to request slots to discuss with eminent personalities and youth.
  • Organize a virtual meeting or debate on virtual conferencing. You can organize meeting on Platforms like -Zoom, Google Meet to discuss young people’s contributions to worldwide issues.
  • Hold a virtual concert to promote International Youth Day and its aim. 
  • Get permission to use a public space for an arts exhibit, which showcases the challenges of young people today or how young people are contributing to development.
