IOA Chief PT Usha Expresses Disappointment Over Attempts to Sideline Her in Letter to Executive Council Members

IOA President PT Usha Criticizes Unjust Termination of Executive Assistant

New Delhi, April 8 (IANS) – In a strongly-worded letter to the executive council members of the association, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha criticized the unjust termination of Captain Ajay Kumar Narang (Retd) from his position as her Executive Assistant.

In the letter, PT Usha expressed her disappointment, stating, “It is disheartening to see that we are still not able to work as a team and each of your acts is an attempt to sideline me.” She emphasized that Captain Ajay Kumar Narang (Retd) was appointed as her Executive Assistant based on her recommendation, and his extension or termination should also be determined by her, not by the Executive Council.

PT Usha highlighted that the termination documents referred to clause 10 of Captain Ajay Kumar Narang’s appointment letter, but she stressed that as the President of IOA, she should have been consulted before any decision was made regarding his performance and termination.

The legendary athlete pointed out that the Executive Council members who signed the termination documents had exceeded their powers, making the documents null and void. She reminded them that administrative functions, including hiring and firing of staff, are not within the purview of the Executive Council, and urged them to focus on more important aspects of leading the IOA.

In conclusion, PT Usha reiterated that Captain Ajay Kumar Narang’s services were satisfactory, and his termination was unjustified. She directed the IOA staff to remove any copies of the notice posted within IOA Bhawan and instructed them to follow guidance and directives from her office via her Executive Assistant.

The letter from PT Usha underscores the internal challenges within the IOA and raises questions about the decision-making process within the association. The response from the Executive Council members to her letter remains to be seen, as the controversy surrounding Captain Ajay Kumar Narang’s termination continues to unfold.
