IPL 2024: Bravo and Pollard rally behind Maphaka after challenging debut match

In a thrilling match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI), U-19 prodigy Kwena Maphaka faced a tough initiation into IPL cricket as he conceded 66 runs. Former West Indies greats Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo extended words of encouragement to him after the match.

Making his IPL debut at just 17 years old, Maphaka, who hails from U19 cricket for South Africa, had a challenging outing against SRH. Despite his tough performance, Pollard and Bravo showed support for the youngster and encouraged him to bounce back from this experience.

Pollard emphasized Maphaka’s potential, saying, “Head up young man, you have greater things to achieve.” While Bravo offered words of encouragement, “Keep your head up Champ! Kwena Maphaka I’m sure you will definitely bounce back.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s powerful batting display led by Heinrich Klassen, Abhishek Sharma, and Travis Head helped them secure a 31-run victory over Mumbai Indians. SRH’s record-breaking team score of 277 for three is now the highest in IPL history, surpassing Royal Challengers Bangalore’s previous record.

Despite the loss, Mumbai Indians will look to bounce back when they face Rajasthan Royals on April 1 at Wankhede Stadium. The match showcased the competitive spirit and talent on display in the IPL, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
