IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals Name Rishabh Pant as Captain, Making Return Complete

Rishabh Pant has been named as the captain of Delhi Capitals for the upcoming IPL 2024, returning to lead the team after missing the 2023 season due to a near-fatal accident. The wicketkeeper-batter is making a comeback to professional cricket after 14 months.

Pant, who was Delhi Capitals captain till 2022, had to sit out the last season because of a car accident on December 30, 2022. The franchise announced Pant’s reinstatement as captain after his successful recovery and participation in the pre-season preparatory camp in Visakhapatnam.

Delhi Capitals’ Chairman and co-owner, Parth Jindal, expressed his delight at Pant’s return as captain, praising his resilience and fearlessness both on and off the field. The team co-owner, Kiran Kumar Grandhi, also commended Pant’s hard work during a challenging phase and wished him and the team all the best for the upcoming season.

The Delhi Capitals are set to kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against Punjab Kings in Chandigarh on March 23, with their initial home matches scheduled to be held in Visakhapatnam. Pant, who was first bought by Delhi Daredevils in 2015 before the franchise was rebranded as Delhi Capitals, has been a key player for the team since 2016 and took on the role of captain in 2021.
