IPL 2024: Delhi’s new star, McGurk, smashes a brilliant fifty to lead the team to victory over Lucknow

Lucknow, April 12 (IANS) Debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk’s exceptional performance led Delhi Capitals to a six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in Match 26 of the IPL 2024 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday. Fraser-McGurk’s explosive 55 runs played a crucial role in the win.

Fraser-McGurk’s quick-fire 55 off 35 balls, including two boundaries and five sixes, propelled Delhi Capitals to chase down the target of 168 with ease. The young batsman shared a crucial 77-run partnership with skipper Rishabh Pant, who also contributed with a valuable 41 runs.

Lucknow Super Giants, batting first, posted 167/7 in their 20 overs with Ayush Badoni top-scoring with an unbeaten fifty. Despite a strong performance from Badoni, Delhi Capitals’ bowlers managed to restrict the hosts and set up the chase for the Capitals.

In response, Delhi Capitals openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner started the chase well, both finding the boundaries early on. However, Shaw fell after scoring 32 runs, bringing Fraser-McGurk to the crease, who played a match-winning knock on debut.

Fraser-McGurk’s aggressive batting and Pant’s resilience helped Delhi Capitals to comfortably reach the target with 11 balls to spare. Fraser-McGurk’s 55 included some impressive shots, making him the third-youngest overseas player to score a half-century in the IPL.

Overall, it was a dominant performance by Delhi Capitals, with Fraser-McGurk stealing the show with his explosive batting display. Lucknow Super Giants tried to stage a comeback but were unable to contain the strong batting lineup of Delhi Capitals. The win takes Delhi Capitals one step closer to securing a playoff spot in the tournament.
