IPL 2024: Mustafizur’s 4-29 and Ruturaj Gaikwad lead CSK to victory against RCB

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign with a victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with a brilliant performance from debutant Mustafizur Rahman. Mustafizur’s four-wicket haul helped CSK restrict RCB to 173/6 before CSK chased down the target with eight balls to spare.

Mustafizur’s outstanding spell of 4-29 helped CSK overcome RCB’s rearguard partnership and secure a win. Despite a slow start and losing a couple of wickets, CSK managed to reach the target of 174 with contributions from Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, and Ravindra Jadeja.

CSK’s new skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad along with Rachin Ravindra gave CSK a decent start, but it was the middle-order batsmen who steered CSK to victory. Dube and Jadeja’s unbeaten partnership of 66 runs ensured CSK’s comfortable win over RCB in the opening match of the tournament.

In contrast, RCB’s innings saw a brisk start by skipper Faf du Plessis but stumbled in the middle overs with wickets falling quickly. Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik’s partnership rescued RCB as they managed to post a competitive total of 173/6.

Mustafizur’s performance with the ball and CSK’s solid batting display led by Dube and Jadeja sealed the victory for the three-time IPL champions. CSK’s dominance over RCB at Chepauk Stadium continued as they secured their eighth successive win over RCB at the venue.

Overall, it was a thrilling contest between CSK and RCB with Mustafizur Rahman emerging as the hero for CSK in his debut match, helping the team start their IPL 2024 campaign on a winning note.
