IPL 2024: Shashank and Ashutosh shine, but missed opportunities in first six overs, says Dhawan

In a nail-biting encounter, Punjab Kings (PBKS) fell short by just two runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL match on Sunday. Shikhar Dhawan praised the efforts of Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma but lamented his team’s inability to capitalize in the first six overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Pat Cummins rattled PBKS’ top order, reducing them to 20/3 in 4.4 overs. Despite the early setbacks, Ashutosh and Shashank’s partnership of 66 runs off 27 balls took PBKS close to the target of 183.

With 29 needed off the final over, PBKS couldn’t seal the win. Dhawan acknowledged the missed opportunities in the match, stating, “We could have stopped 10-15 runs more and that made a difference. As a batting unit, we did not perform well.”

Looking ahead, Dhawan emphasized the need for the top order to step up and perform consistently. PBKS will face Rajasthan Royals in their next IPL 2024 match at Mullanpur on Saturday.
