IPL 2024: SRH names James Franklin as new pace-bowling coach following Dale Steyn’s withdrawal for personal reasons
Sunrisers Hyderabad appoint James Franklin as pace-bowling coach for IPL 2024 season. Franklin replaces Dale Steyn due to personal reasons. Franklin, who played for New Zealand, has coaching experience with Durham and Islamabad United. SRH also announced Pat Cummins as captain, replacing Aiden Markram, for upcoming season.
Franklin’s appointment as SRH’s pace-bowling coach comes after legendary pacer Dale Steyn withdrew from the role due to personal reasons. In a social media post, the franchise welcomed Franklin onboard and expressed excitement about his involvement in the upcoming season.
Having played for Mumbai Indians in previous IPL seasons, Franklin brings a wealth of experience to his new coaching role with SRH. He will work alongside head coach Daniel Vettori, with whom he has previously collaborated in other coaching roles, including at Birmingham Phoenix and Middlesex county team.
With Pat Cummins appointed as SRH’s captain for IPL 2024, the franchise aims to build on the leadership credentials of the Australian cricketer. Cummins had a successful 2023 season, leading Australia to multiple victories, including the World Test Championship and the Men’s ODI World Cup. He will be SRH’s third captain in three seasons.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, the champions of IPL 2016, will kick off their IPL 2024 campaign on March 23 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. The team will then play their first home match on March 27 against Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The franchise is gearing up for an exciting season with new coaching and captaincy appointments.
