Iraqi Shiite militia says current calm with US forces 'temporary tactic'

Baghdad, Feb 26 (IANS) The leader of the Iranian-backed al-Nujaba Movement, Akram al-Kaabi, has stated that the current period of calm among Iraqi armed groups in their conflict with US forces is a “temporary tactic”, emphasizing continued support for the Palestinians. He mentioned high-level coordination in the region against the Americans and Israelis, calling the current calm a strategy.

Al-Kaabi emphasized that the Islamic Resistance in Iraq plays a crucial role in countering Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip. Despite not rejecting the government’s negotiations for US withdrawal from Iraq, he labeled the US occupier as a “liar, deceiver, and arrogant one.” The statement comes after recent attacks by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq on US military bases in response to the conflict between Hamas and Israel.

The dialogue between Iraq and the United States to discuss the coalition’s mission in Iraq began on January 27, but was disrupted by an attack on a military base near Jordan’s border with Syria, resulting in the death of three US soldiers. The US attributed the attack to the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, leading to retaliatory strikes on Iranian-backed armed groups in Iraq. Following this, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq paused their attacks on US bases to facilitate negotiations for the US withdrawal from Iraq.

The current calm among Iraqi armed groups is viewed as a strategy to reposition and deploy, with ongoing support for the Palestinians against Israeli aggression. The intricate coordination among various fronts against the Americans and Israelis in the region highlights a purposeful approach. The statement by Al-Kaabi underscores the complex dynamics at play in the conflict with US forces in Iraq.–IANS
