Ireland, Scotland, and Netherlands to compete in tri-series before Men’s T20 World Cup in May

Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands to feature in T20 tri-series ahead of World Cup

Amstelveen, March 29 (IANS) – With an eye on the Men’s T20 World Cup in June, minnows Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands will play a tri-series from May 18-24 in preparation for the mega event at the VRA ground in Amstelveen.

The Netherlands and Scotland, both experienced in T20 World Cups, will use the tri-series to gear up for the upcoming tournament in West Indies and USA. The three teams will face each other twice in the shortest format as part of their preparation. The Netherlands finished in eighth place in the 2022 edition of the tournament.

“We are excited to host this Tri-Series as part of our preparation for the T20 World Cup played in America and the West Indies in June,” said Roland Lefebvre, High-Performance Manager, KNCB.

Ireland has participated in the Men’s T20 World Cup seven times, reaching the Super-8 phase in 2009 and the Super-12s in 2022. Scotland’s best performance has been reaching the Super-12s in 2021.

The tri-series matches will be live-streamed by the European Cricket Network (ECN) with six cameras, providing fans with an opportunity to watch the action. Scotland’s ICC Cricket World Cup League Two series against Oman and Namibia will precede their departure for the Men’s T20 World Cup on May 26.

“I’m pleased with the quality and volume of cricket we have in the leadup to the Men’s T20 World Cup, and this Tri-Series offers further vital preparation and crucial game time for our squad,” said Steve Snell, Cricket Scotland’s Head of High Performance.
