IRS $1400 Stimulus Check On 2021 Returns: Who Are Eligible, How To Claim and Other Details

There are some good tidings for US Taxpayers who did not avail the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 returns. 

They could be receiving up to $1,400 in January 2025.

It will be a part of a $2.4 billion package which will be distributed to eligible citizens. 

Those citizens who have missed out filing can be still eligible for the $1400 stimulus by filing returns by April 15 so that they can avail it later.

The latest $1400 stimulus check is being released for Taxpayers who did not claim the Recovery Rebate Credit in the financial year 2021-22.

The checks are being released by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in January.

The IRS had in a statement in December 2024 stated that an internal review of data revealed that several eligible taxpayers have filed their 2021 returns but did not claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.

For the unversed, the Recovery Rebate Credit is a mechanism which was devised for individuals who have missed at least one Economic Impact Payments that came after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligible US Citizens For IRS $1400 Stimulus Check

Taxpayers had left the Recovery Rebate Credit field blank or marked as $0 in their 2021 tax returns to qualify for the $1,400 stimulus check. Taxpayers can check from the 2021 Tax returns.

Payments Date

US Taxpayers who have already filed the 2021 returns will get their $1400 stimulus checks in January 2025. The payments will be effected automatically into the beneficiary’s bank account by the IRS. The taxpayer will not be required to do anything.

Eligible US Taxpayers will receive a letter from the IRS notifying them about the refund. Taxpayers who have not filed the return and plans to do so by April 15 are also eligible for the stimulus but will receive the checks only after their returns have been processed.

A total of $814 billion was provided as financial assistance by the US Government at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
