Is Dhanteras 2023 A School Holiday? Deets Inside

The second last month of the English calendar, that is November is full of different kinds of festivities. This year, festivals like Chhath Puja, Bhaiya Dooj, Govardhan Puja, Badi Diwali, Chhoti Diwali, and Dhanteras occur in this month.

Apart from this, there are four Sundays in the month, which are also holidays. In school, there will be a long holiday during the Diwali celebration.

However, a question arose from various individuals including students from schools whether the festival would be a Holiday in 2023 or not. Elders as well as children think about the biggest festival season of the year, which includes Dhanteras.

When is Dhanteras 2023?

As per the Hindu calendar, in 2023, the day will be celebrated on November 10, 2023, which marks the beginning of the five-day celebration of Diwali. The day is celebrated in the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month, on the Trayodashi date, hence the name, Dhanteras. This festival falls on the day before Chhoti Diwali and two days before the main Diwali which is Badi Diwali.

Is Dhanteras a School Holiday?

Until now, the day has not occupied a place on the list of government holidays in India. Thus, schools are required to be open on this day. It should be noted that Dhanteras is not included in the gazetted list of holidays. However, parents are advised to check their wards’ school diary to confirm if this is a holiday or not.

Why is there no holiday on Dhanteras?

During this time of the year, when the year is almost at its ending stage, various important examinations such as pre-boards, and half-yearly examinations are lined up in the majority of schools. Hence, more holidays can not be entertained. The teachers are also assigned deadlines to complete the syllabus. Thus, students are provided with limited holidays so that education does not suffer.
