Is Disney Channel Shutting Down Worldwide in 2025? Know the Full Story

The internet was rife with a rumor that the Disney Channel will cease operations worldwide in 2025. The news soon went viral on social media.

The origin of this rumor can be traced to a post on X by a user who went by the name @layxsnv, who claimed that the Disney Channel will stop airing from January 2025. The post is dated December 2, 2024.

The Disney Channel came into existence almost 27 years ago, and fans were shell-shocked by the news.

Is Disney Channel Going to Stop Airing in 2025?

The user also posted two images with the post—the first one was of the Disney Channel’s original logo, and the second one of rapper Snoop Dogg in tears. The post raked in more than 444,300 views in less than 24 hours.

However, to the relief of Disney fans, the viral rumors have been proved to be fake, and the Disney Channel is not going to shut down globally anytime soon, at least not after January 2025.

The channel has stopped operations in some countries, notably Spain and France, but it will continue operations across many parts of the globe.

The Walt Disney Company has also not made any announcement to this effect, and it will continue its operations in the US.

The main reason for Disney Channel’s closure in a number of countries, along with its sister channels, is the changing strategies by the Walt Disney Company to shift its online content and stream on Disney+.

This has led it to stop its channels in a number of countries, which includes many nations in Southeast Asia like South Korea.

It has also stopped operations in bigger markets like Australia, Italy, and the United Kingdom. It has set January 1 and 7, 2025, to stop its operations in France and Spain, respectively.

Disney has ended its operations in France after the end of its contract with Canal+, their French partnering network.

Also, the sister channel Disney Junior is to be discontinued in France, along with Disney XD’s recent closure. Disney Channel had a presence of more than 27 years on Spanish TV, which is also going to end. All the content that was broadcast on these channels will now be available on Disney+.

Disney is also not shutting down its operation on the television channels in the US. However, it is not clear for how long this will continue, considering the surging popularity of Disney+ in the US.
