Temilade Openiyi known by her common name Tems is a Nigerian singer and songwriter and became famous with her appearance on Wizkid’s 2020 single “Essence”. The single went on to reach number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart following the release of the remix version with Justin Bieber.
The song also earned her first Grammy Award nomination. She also featured on the song “Fountains” by Drake.
More success followed when in 2020 she brought out the extended version of “For Broken Ears”. This was quickly followed by a second extended play titled ‘Orange Was a Place’ when she signed a record deal with RCA Records.
She also featured in the Billboard Hot 100 and earned the distinction of being the first African artist to debut at number one and also the second Nigerian singer to reach the top of the chart. More accolades followed and the song got her a Grammy in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category.
Tems also did a re-rendition of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” which was featured in the feature film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack album in July 2022.
