ITF Women’s Open: Harshini, Sharmada through to 2nd round of qualifying

In Gurugram, Harshini Viswanadh and Sharmada Balu have advanced to the final round of qualifying at the ITF Women’s Open Gurugram W35 in different ways. Harshini, ranked 37th on AITA rankings, won a tough match against Abhaya Vemuri, while Sharmada upset Snigdha Patibandla in straight sets.

Harshini, a 17-year-old player, showed her fighting spirit as she battled past Abhaya Vemuri with a 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 victory. On the other hand, Sharmada, who is making a comeback in the ITF circuit, defeated a higher-ranked opponent, Snigdha Patibandla, 6-1, 6-3 in straight sets.

In the meanwhile, Vaishnavi Adkar, Sowjanya Bavisetti, and Madhurima Sawant, the top-seeded Indian players in the qualifying draw, received byes to advance to the final round without playing. This shows their dominance and experience in the tournament.

During the opening round of qualifiers, several other Indian players also registered wins to move on to the final round. Notable victories include Siri Patil beating Mahi Trivedi 6-4, 6-4, and Riya Sachdeva defeating Suhani Gaur 7-5, 6-2. The competition is fierce as players strive to make their mark in the ITF Women’s Open Gurugram W35.
