Who is Jack Del Rio?
As a gridiron star turned coach, Jack Del Rio is an icon of many memories. Nicknamed and recognized as number 50, Jack Del Rio was born on April 4, 1963, in Castro Valley, California. It was the year destined to bring to this world a warrior who was to cause waves during his life on as well as off the football field. From high school athlete to All-American linebacker at USC and eventually on to being an NFL coach with all the twists and turns the league throws at him, his journey is one that spans the map. And while he might have to start keeping the cleats in the closet, Del Rio just keeps on racking up headlines with or without a playbook.
Jack Del Rio Career
Jack Del Rio’s Coaching Career, which has been somewhat action-packed, started this way. Having had a solid foundation in his past-blessed to have served as the strength and conditioning coach of the New Orleans Saints under Mike Ditka (that Mike Ditka)-he worked his way up through the coaching ranks, with stops as head coach in Jacksonville Jaguars, defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, and even led the Oakland Raiders. However, Del Rio’s career has been somewhat of a rollercoaster ride.
His time with the Jaguars was filled with promise, but execution was short on delivery—think of it as “close, but no cigar” after running into the Patriots twice in the playoffs. Then, after coaching the Raiders and guiding his team with grit, sometimes producing an eyebrow-raising play call, Del Rio moved on. But the NFL wasn’t done with him, and Del Rio’s job as defensive coordinator with the Washington Commanders ended following a Thanksgiving blowout of the Dallas Cowboys in 2023.
Fast forward to today, and Del Rio landed a new job at the University of Wisconsin as a senior advisor. Of course, his introduction came with a headline. Recently, Jack got himself into a bit of a tangle—literally. After a fender-bender with a street sign and a fence, police are said to have chased him down after he took off on an impromptu walk from the scene. Let’s just say, Del Rio keeps things… interesting.
Jack Del Rio Net Worth
Del Rio’s net worth in 2024 is estimated to be around $15 million. His bank account has had its share of paychecks from coaching roles with the NFL, not to mention endorsements and a collection of odd trivia moments (more on that in a minute). But what lifts his fortune is the unstoppable draw of the NFL. Whether it was calling defensive plays or giving wise counsel to some young bucks at the University of Wisconsin, whether it was making headlines for right or wrong reasons, Del Rio has established a nice little nest egg over his decades in the sports world.
Jack Del Rio Age
Jack is 61 years young, and if we are honest, he doesn’t look like he’s slowing down at all. He may not be the same spring in his step that he was when he had the ball at his feet playing, but that fire in the belly burns bright enough still. After all, Jack has spent a lifetime training on the field, coaching from the sidelines, and apparently practicing that reflexivity-even dodging fences.
Jack Del Rio Family: Wife and Children
No NFL coach is complete without an amazing spouse being the rock behind them. In the case of Del Rio, that spouse is Linda Del Rio whom he married in 1988. Linda isn’t unfamiliar with change, as she has managed to coordinate 40 moves over their marriage’s 29-year course. New Orleans to Oakland and everywhere in between, she’s the anchor in Jack’s whirlwind NFL journey. She and Jack met after he joined the Saints, and as Linda likes to laugh, she really wasn’t all that interested in getting involved with an NFL player—especially one who looks that good.
The couple has four children: Lauren, Hope, Aubrey, and Luke. Their family has weathered countless transitions, and Linda has even built a career of her own including photography and running the Jack Del Rio Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing underprivileged youth opportunities. Despite Jack’s sometimes full-contact career and penchant for high-stakes situations (on and off the field), he and Linda have kept their marriage grounded with weekly lunch dates-a tradition going strong for 30 years.
And each of their children’s individuality is carving out its own lane. Lauren is a major gift officer for a Jazz and Heritage media outlet, Hope is a law student at Loyola Law School, Aubrey is a PR major at the University of Alabama, and Luke is even following in dad’s footsteps as a quarterback at the University of Florida.
Jack Del Rio Height and Weight
At 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighing in at 246 pounds (112 kg), Del Rio stands as a man and a linebacker. Perhaps he’s content to take no more knocks for his efforts on the field, but that linebacker body type has stuck around. He was an imposing figure while playing and remains so now as a coach and, shall we say, Wisconsin’s “most memorable senior advisor”.
