Jairam Ramesh claims Centre has not resolved Naga political issue

In Kohima, Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused BJP of focusing on “artificial uniformity” while Congress is working towards uniting the country. Ramesh criticized BJP for not making substantial progress on the Naga political issue despite signing agreements with Naga groups.

Ramesh highlighted the lack of progress on the ‘Framework Agreement’ signed in 2015 with NSCN-IM and the ‘Agreed Position’ signed in 2017 with NNPGs. He also mentioned the demand for autonomy by Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation in 2023 and the subsequent boycott call for Lok Sabha elections.

According to Ramesh, the BJP government in Nagaland only makes grand announcements without taking any real action. He emphasized the need for a permanent solution to the political issue in Nagaland, which the Congress has committed to in its Nyay Patra.

The Congress leader also expressed concern about the breakdown of talks between the government and NSCN-IM last year. Ramesh highlighted the importance of Article 371 (A) in safeguarding the traditional cultures and customs of Nagaland, which he feels are currently under threat. He also mentioned the ongoing tensions in neighbouring Manipur and the potential spread to other northeastern states.
