In 2020, Jake Weddle left MrBeast to create his own YouTube channel. In November 2020, Jake released a video online where he talked about why he left MrBeast. Jake mentioned that it was very hard to meet the expectations of MrBeast’s audience, which made him feel stuck regarding his creativity and expectations.
Jake mentioned that this was the sole reason behind him leaving, and there were no grudges between Jake and MrBeast. In August 2024, Jake shared more details about his work time with MrBeast. Jake discussed his experiences and talked about the details of the videos.
Jake said, “Can we think about how advertising and marketing…there’s a lot of tricks…they literally trick you into buying stuff and…like video games with the microtransactions, that’s all based on science targeted to kids and their brains…. Approachable, inoffensive, formulaic, paint-by-numbers…I had to be very careful about what I said publicly because I wanted to have a career.”
Jake revealed that he expected to be a more central part of the channel, but that didn’t work out the way he wanted. Jake felt his screen time was limited and he did not have much creative freedom as well. Jake also criticized MrBeast’s content and his marketing strategy, which was used.
Jake said that MrBeast often tricks audiences into buying products online. Jake felt that his writing area was getting restricted. Jake also hinted that he might have received a $100,000 amount to keep his time with MrBeast under wraps.
Jake Weddle revealed, “Did they offer me 100,000 dollars? Yes indeed. Did I take it? Yes, I did. Was it under the assumption of “shush money”? No! Of course, they would never do that.”
Jake Weddle then mentioned that the video he shared, was not to defame anyone or expose, but to express his time and description about the time he spent there.
