Japan to Increase Subsidies for Repairing Liquefaction Damage from Noto Earthquakes

The Japanese government has finalised support measures for areas affected by liquefaction induced by the New Year’s Day earthquake. The 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake caused liquefaction in Ishikawa, Toyama, and Niigata, hindering reconstruction efforts.

The support measures include a 50% subsidy rate hike for local governments in affected areas to help fix liquefaction damage to residential areas and public infrastructure. The government will cover half the costs for municipalities working on these repairs.

Additionally, individuals restoring their houses in other areas will receive a subsidy of up to 1.2 million yen for repairing affected lands and improving earthquake resistance. These measures aim to aid in the recovery and reconstruction process in the affected regions.

The government’s decision to provide increased support to areas impacted by liquefaction will help expedite the reconstruction efforts and assist residents in recovering from the damage caused by the earthquake.
