J&K is a volleyball hub, needs proper facilities and support, says DelhI Toofans skipper Saqlain Tariq
Indian volleyball player Saqlain Tariq, hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, has expressed his desire to see his home state become a volleyball hub. Saqlain, who is leading the Delhi Toofans in the third season of Prime Volleyball League (PVL), shared his aspirations after a victory over Bengaluru Torpedoes at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.
Saqlain, who started his volleyball journey in his school days and later represented India at various international competitions, emphasized the lack of facilities and support for volleyball players in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite his modest background, Saqlain’s family provided him with the necessary support to pursue his career, and he has now become a successful player and a Petty Officer in the Indian Navy.
Expressing his concern for the lack of opportunities and exposure for young volleyball players in his home state, Saqlain urged the government to provide support and create opportunities for talented athletes. He also encouraged families to encourage their children to participate in sports to avoid negative activities and learn valuable lessons.
Saqlain’s story is one of determination and success, and his desire to see more youngsters from Jammu and Kashmir excel in volleyball is a testament to his passion for the sport and his home state. His plea for support and opportunities for young athletes is a call to action for the authorities and the community to nurture talent and provide the necessary infrastructure for the growth of volleyball in the region.
