JN Port in Mumbai achieves record container throughput levels

New Delhi, April 3 (IANS) – The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) in Mumbai has set a new record by handling 6.43 million TEUs in the fiscal year 2023-24, marking a 6.27 per cent increase from the previous year. The total traffic at JNPA from April 2023 to March 2024 was 85.82 million tonnes, a 2.33 per cent rise.

The Ministry of Ports and Shipping shared that the port handled 78.13 million tonnes of container traffic and 7.70 million tonnes of bulk cargo during this period. This marks an increase from the previous year, where 76.19 million tonnes of container traffic and 7.67 million tonnes of bulk traffic were handled.

JNPA currently operates five container terminals, as well as a shallow water berth for general cargo and a liquid cargo terminal managed by the BPCL-Indian Oil consortium. The port area covers 277 hectares of land and also houses a multi-product SEZ to support export-oriented industries.

This achievement is a testament to the continued growth and efficiency at JNPA, showcasing its importance as one of the leading container-handling ports in the country. The increase in throughput and traffic highlights the port’s capabilities in handling cargo and supporting trade activities effectively.
