Joe Biden criticizes Donald Trump, vows to stand firm against Russia

In his State of the Union address, US President Joe Biden criticized Donald Trump for his comments on Russia and NATO, vowing not to bow down to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Biden also discussed a range of issues including Ukraine, NATO, abortion rights, the economy, and the US-Mexico border.

Biden accused Trump of wanting to spread resentment in the US but emphasized that Trump will find no harbor in the country. He specifically called out Trump for “bowing down” to Putin while asserting, “I will not bow down.” Biden also expressed his intention to work towards restoring abortion rights nationwide if reelected.

Addressing the war in Gaza, Biden stressed Israel’s responsibility to protect innocent civilians and criticized Hamas for holding hostages in the region. His speech received both applause and criticism, with some praising his energy, hopefulness, and positivity, while others, including Trump, accused him of misrepresentation.

Trump, on his Truth Social media platform, alleged that Biden’s speech contained “tremendous misrepresentation and lies,” and claimed that November 5 will be the most important day in the nation’s history. Some Republican figures, like Texas Representative Monica De La Cruz, dismissed Biden’s portrayal of a perfect situation, arguing that the reality is different.

Despite criticism, Biden’s ally Delaware Senator Chris Coons defended the president, stating that Biden was making his case for re-election and displaying energy and hopefulness in his speech. Coons rejected claims that Biden was being too political, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming election.
