The love story between Joe and his wife Mary, known as “Nan,” was also a part of his charm. The couple met in Puerto Rico in 1955 while Joe was stationed there with the U.S. Air Force.
Within three days of meeting, they decided to marry and moved to Longview, Texas, where they spent nearly 70 years together.
