Jolt to Congress in Madhya Pradesh as Chhindwara Mayor Vikram Ahake switches to BJP

Bhopal, April 1 (IANS) In a recent development, the mayor of Chhindwara Municipal Corporation, Vikram Ahake, has switched his allegiance from Congress to BJP. Ahake, who was a trusted aide of Congress veteran Kamal Nath, joined the BJP at their headquarters in Bhopal on Monday.

Chhindwara, being a stronghold of Kamal Nath, saw Ahake being elected as the Mayor in 2022, with Congress promoting him as a young tribal leader. His shift to BJP has come as a surprise to many, especially as Kamal Nath is preparing for his son’s election campaign in the region.

Madhya Pradesh BJP President V.D. Sharma welcomed Ahake and some other former Congress workers at the BJP headquarters, a move that is seen as a setback to Kamal Nath, who recently lost another close aide to the BJP.

The political landscape in Chhindwara seems to be transforming with Congress losing its grip in the region, as evident from the recent shifts of key leaders to the BJP camp. It remains to be seen how these developments impact the upcoming elections in Madhya Pradesh.
