NYPD Cop Jonathan Diller Shot Dead By Guy Rivera, Suspect Arrested 

An NYPD Officer, Jonathan Diller, has recently been shot in the stomach during a tragic encounter.

The incident took place on Monday evening in Far Rockaway, Queens, as per TimesNow.

The suspect was identified as Guy Rivera, who was on the run after a “senseless act of violence.” However, the 34-year-old Guy Rivera has been arrested by the police officials. 

What Happened to Jonathan Diller? 

When Jonathan Diller was shot fatally, he was conducting a vehicle stop. Around 5:48 PM local time, Diller along with his partner were at the traffic stop at 1919 Mott Avenue.

The duo were focusing on various issues with cars like illegal tints, or fake plates. 

NYPD officials reported that Diller and his partner asked a vehicle with two men who were trying to park their car at a bus stop, to stop, as it is illegal.

When Jonathan Diller and his wife asked the men to come out, the man sitting in the passenger seat refused to step out. He then pointed a gun at the officers, reported CBS News.

The man fired the gun at Diller. Diller, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was shot in his torso, below the vest. 

The NYPD officer was quickly transferred to Jamaica Hospital. His condition was critical. Later he passed away due to his injuries. 

The police commissioner for the NYPD, Edward A Caban, stated, “Tonight this city lost a hero, a wife lost her husband, and a young child lost their father. We struggle to find the words to express the tragedy of losing one of our own. The work that Police Officer Jonathan Diller did each day to make this city a safer place will NEVER be forgotten.” 

Guy Rivera Caught and Arrested 

The police and law enforcement officials announced that the 34-year-old Guy Rivera, who shot Jonathan Diller to death, has been apprehended. 

The Chief of Detectives, Joseph Kenny, confirmed that the suspect was identified and arrested. Guy Rivera was found near the scene of the shooting. 

According to Newsweek, in 2011, Guy Rivera was imprisoned for assault. However, it was released in 2014. He was again released from prison in 2021. Rivera served five years imprisonment for selling illegal and controlled substances.
