He was acknowledged for his striking force in defense and physical appearance on the field. Juan played for several top clubs in Uruguayan Primera División, such as Cerro, Peñarol, Montevideo Wanderers, Liverpool, and Nacional. He also played for the Mexican Liga MX and had a short stay with Atlético San Luis. Having Nacional as his last club, Juan was influential in league title victories with Liverpool and Nacional in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Juan Izquierdo began his career at Cerro, having debuted in 2018 during the Copa Sudamericana. After a very short time in service with Peñarol, he moved to Montevideo Wanderers, during which time his performance, especially his scored goals, came into view. In 2021, the first transfer abroad occurred to Atlético San Luis of Mexico. However, injuries and other struggles saw him return to Uruguay, where he played with Liverpool, then Nacional, still contributing aggressively and back-to-back league titles. Unfortunately, the player died on the pitch in a Copa Libertadores match in 2024 due to cardiac arrest.
