With the date of US Presidential Elections 2024 a few months away the rhetoric of both the contesting parties have become shriller and accusations against the opposing parties are flying fast and thick and often without any basis or proof.
The latest missive is from the Republicans who have accused the Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris of being “intoxicated” during her speeches.
Is Kamala Harris Drunk during her rallies?
To buttress these claims, clips of Harris at a rally in Prince George’s County, Maryland, where she was joined by President Joe Biden and another from her visit to Madison, Wisconsin, in March have been given as an example.
However both these events do not confirm that Kamala Harris has been in an intoxicated state.
In the Maryland clip, Harris is seen introducing President Biden and also unveiling plans to reduce prescription drug prices while the Wisconsin video shows her speaking about the “strength of democracy.”
Despite no solid evidence some users have accused the Democratic Presidential candidate of being an alcoholic and labeled these appearances as proof of her alleged intoxication.
The social media is filled with comments pertaining to Harris sobriety. One user even compared Harris’ speech to “VODKA Pelosi”.
Another user has questioned Kamala’s abilities to discharge her duties if she is so addicted to alcohol. One user went to the extreme and speculated the consequences of having a drunken Commander-in-Chief.
Harris’ camp was quick to rebuke these claims and call them unsubstantiated and repetitive.
One defender stated,
“It’s clear that these attacks are nothing more than tired and unfounded criticisms,”
Another commented,
“The latest accusations are desperate attempts to undermine her credibility.”
James Blair, who is the political director for Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign, started the debate when he tweeted that there are rumors that Harris is struggling with alcoholism. This was quickly picked up by other social media users.
The idea was further given a push by Trump campaign advisor Alex Bruesewitz, who amplified the message with a retweet. The comments section soon went ballistic with questions like “Is She Drunk?” dominating social media.
However, the genesis to this rumour cannot be traced to a couple of public appearances which some deemed as odd or unconventional behaviour.
Kamala Harris has made no bones of her liking of wine and often showcased her love for the beverage throughout her political career.
In fact, when she was named Joe Biden’s running mate, the San Francisco Chronicle referred to her luxurious tastes and labelled her as the only major candidate who drinks booze.
Trump’s campaign team found fresh ammunition to berate Kamala Harris because she frequented wine bars and hosted events at places like Cork Wine Bar and accused her of being an alcoholic.
