Both Presidential hopefuls, Kamala Harris of the Democrats and Donald Trump of Republicans are trying to woo the younger voters.
Kamala Harris will be launching a new Twitch channel and it will stream the vice president’s acceptance speech on Thursday.
It is one more effort by the Democrats to engage the young and the difficult-to-contact voters online.
The latest Twitch Channel which goes under the handle of “kamalaharris,” is one more addition to a slew of social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube.
Seth Schuster, a Harris spokesperson, told a prominent media house in a statement.
“The VP’s address tonight will be one of the biggest moments of the entire campaign thus far—and we’re making sure we’re bringing her live to voters wherever they may be, Twitch included. Our job as the campaign is to break through a historically personalized media landscape, taking the VP and her vision for the future directly to the hardest-to-reach voters and those who will decide this election.”
The Republican campaign of Harris-Walz has been pouring funds in digital and has hired 175 staffers across digital organizing, content creation, and digital advertising and fundraising.
The efforts are yielding results since Kamala Harris was endorsed as the Democratic Presidential candidate by the party and the rebranded KamalaHQ TikTok account quintupled in followers, and its Harris-focused content received 232 million views and 33 million likes.
More than 200 content creators have been contracted to cover the Democratic National Convention this week.
This year’s DNC is different because for the first time independent creators have been allowed access to the DNC and allowed to interview politicians and party leaders like DNC chair Jaime Harrison.
Kamala Harris has joined Twitch recently but US President Joe Biden and Donald Trump joined the platform in 2020.
However, Trump’s account was suspended after the January 6 attack on the Capitol and was only reinstated this summer.
Former President Donald Trump’s account after its suspension was lifted has 172,000 followers.
When Biden made his debut on Twitch his team streamed a live feed from the back of a train he was traveling.
Kamala Harris will deliver the final speech at the DNC. Her candidature has spawned immense energy and enthusiasm among Democrats as she has ascended to the top of the Democratic ticket.
