Kamarajar Birthday 2022: Kamarajar or Kumaraswamy Kamarajar was a famous freedom fighter and politician from the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Kamarajar was the second Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and served in this position for 10 years.

According to Wikipedia, Kamaraj was born on 15 July 1903 in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. His initial name was Kamakshi Kumaraswamy Nadar but later he came to be known as K Kamarajar. Kamaraj’s father was a businessman, but his untimely death put his family in trouble. He was known as the ‘King Maker’ in Indian politics. After the death of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal, the concern about the new Prime Minister of India raised then Kamaraj came forward to solve it. After independence, on 13 April 1954, Kamaraj reluctantly accepted the post of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and the state got a leader who was going to take many revolutionary steps for it.

Kamaraj made many important decisions for the education sector. He made arrangements that no village should remain without a primary school. He vowed to remove illiteracy and introduced free and compulsory education till class 11th. He came up with a plan to provide ‘mid-day meals’ to poor children in schools. He was known as the ‘Gandhi of the South’. Kamaraj was also posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award, in 1976. Kamarajar died in Chennai on 2 October 1975.
