Netizens have reacted with horror and trepidation to the news that Youth pastor Matthew Lee Richards has been charged with stabbing his family. The young pastor from Shawnee, Kansas, has been accused of stabbing his wife and children and later set fire to his home. The young pastor aged 41 is in custody and has been held on a $5 million bond issued in his name.

Matthew Lee Richards has been charged for stabbing his wife and child and setting fire to his home on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Matthew’s indictment was listed for Monday, September 18, at 1:30 pm local time.

Thankfully all the victims in the murderous attack have survived but all of them sustained severe injuries which included several laceration injuries of varying degrees. The victims include Richards’ wife and their five children. The young pastor is accused of stabbing his wife and his five children.

Fire Started Deliberately – Initial Investigation Revealed

Officers who responded to a distress call reached the pastor’s home in the 6600 block of Goode Drive at around 3:47 am local time on Saturday after a house fire was reported. Initial investigation by the fire department confirmed that the fire was started deliberately in the basement of the house, and they were able to extinguish it immediately.

Later the emergency services found seven individuals in the house which include Matthew Lee Richards, his wife, and their five children. The children and the pastor’s wife sustained stab injuries and were rushed to the nearby hospital.

Police have charged the young pastor with five charges of attempted murder and one charge of aggravated arson with the risk of bodily harm. It is alleged that the pastor had stabbed his wife and five children before starting a deliberate fire in the basement of his residence. Two of the pastor’s children and a 19-year-old child were released after they were administered first aid, his wife and two children have sustained serious stab wounds and are still being treated in the hospital.

While the Crossroads Christian Church authorities in which Matthew Lee Richards is the youth pastor have in a statement said that they are aware of the allegations against Matthew and the Church is gathering more information on the incident.
