Karnataka BJP rebel Eshwarappa files nomination as an Independent candidate from Shivamogga

In a surprising turn of events in Karnataka’s political landscape, rebel BJP leader KS Eshwarappa filed his nomination as an Independent candidate from the Shivamogga constituency on Friday. Despite objections from the BJP, Eshwarappa carried out a procession with thousands of supporters, using Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s posters and banners.

Eshwarappa, a veteran leader, stated that he filed his nomination with the support of 15,000 to 20,000 supporters from all eight Assembly constituencies of Shivamogga. He expressed confidence in winning the election and criticized the party’s leadership, indirectly targeting former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and his son, state BJP President BY Vijayendra.

The BJP’s official candidate for the Shivamogga seat is BY Raghavendra, son of Yediyurappa, while the Congress has nominated Geetha Shivarajkumar, wife of Kannada superstar Dr. Shivarajkumar. Raghavendra has a history of electoral victories in the constituency, defeating opponents by significant margins in previous elections.

With Eshwarappa entering the race as an Independent candidate, a close contest is expected in the high-profile Shivamogga seat. The competition is set to intensify, adding a new dynamic to the electoral battle in the constituency.
