TikTok app went off in the US on January 18th but access was restored to its users on January 19th 2025 as per an announcement by the content-sharing platform.
The streaming platform expressed gratitude to Donald Trump for reinstating its services.
Kendrick Lamar Hailed as TikTok Hero
However a strange trend started on the internet and it read,
“Kendrick Lamar saved TikTok”
Several netizens took to social media platform X to add to the trending phrase and hail Lamar for preventing a shutdown of TikTok instead of the then President-elect, Donald Trump.
Everybody on TikTok thanking Kendrick Lamar for saving it wasn’t something I was expecting lol. Damn I guess he wasn’t lying when he said.

One netizens tweeted on X,
“Can’t believe Kendrick Lamar brought back TikTok this is crazy”
A Lamar fan page, @kendricksociety in a post proclaimed that TikTok had Lamar’s track peekaboo for the streaming platform to be back in business.
The post stated,
“Mr. Chew (TikTok CEO) says that the swift actions to restore the app in the US were thanks to Kendrick Lamar viral hit ‘peekaboo’. He also said to be looking forward to the Pulitzer Prize upcoming Superbowl Performance, ‘Bing-bop-boom-boom-boom-bop-bam,'”
It is not clear why netizens are crediting Kendrick Lamar for TikTok reincarnating after its brief interlude but in all probability, it looks like a joke because there is no link between Lamar and the reinstating of the TikTok app. The streaming app had in a statement clearly outlined that it was Trump’s efforts that helped to prevent the app from being banned. It stated,
“We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.”
It further added,
“It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”
Trump had earlier mentioned that efforts must be made to save TikTok in the U.S.
Congress initiated the process to force the streaming app’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to divest its stakes in the company to an American entity before January 19 or face a ban in the US.
