The Khanapara Teer is one of the many Teer events which are held by the Government of Meghalaya and is open for all days of the week except on Sunday which is an off day. The Khanapara Teer Lotteries have the blessings of the State Government and is completely legal. The lotteries come under the strict provisions of the Betting Tax Act and Meghalaya Amusement and are held in a very transparent manner.
The accrual Teer event starts at 03.30 p.m. when the sale of the lottery tickets concludes. A group of fifty archers take part in the archery event and are required to shoot fifty arrows at a target in a specified time of two minutes in two stages.
The archers shoot thirty arrows in the first phase and then twenty arrows in the second stage at a target which is placed at a distance of fifty meters. The arrows which hit the target are counted and it constitutes the lucky winning number. If the number is the same number on the lottery ticket on which the player bets money, he receives a cash award.
