Knowing personal stories of Indian fans was special, Solskjaer reflects on connections made on India tour

Manchester United’s legendary player, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, recently concluded a special three-city tour of India, during which he expressed his personal connection with Indian fans as the highlight of the trip. Solskjaer’s visit to Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi from February 9 to 11 was met with a warm reception from fans across the country, who gathered in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the former Manchester United manager and player.

Reflecting on his maiden Indian visit, Solskjaer shared, “It’s been a long way and it’s been brilliant for me. It was a special experience especially when you meet people 1 to 1 and they have got their own personal stories, that’s what’s been more special during the tour.” Fans also had the opportunity to meet Solskjaer during gala dinners held in all three cities, where they shared personal letters and stories with the football icon.

During his trip, Solskjaer was impressed by the passion and enthusiasm of Indian fans, stating, “Fans have given me some letters as well but you know when grown men come up to you and they shiver and shake and say that I am so nervous in front of you, I need to tell you this quite special story, and that thing sticks with you.” He also expressed awe at witnessing a sand artist create a depiction of his journey, describing it as a “special experience” that took him by surprise.

The tour was organized by Tilak Gaurang Shah, an ardent Manchester United fan and the founder of Ace of Pubs, India’s largest quizzing company. Solskjaer’s successful visit to India has sparked excitement not only among Manchester United fans but also football enthusiasts in general, signaling the potential for more such visits in the future.

Solskjaer’s trip has ignited a newfound enthusiasm and love for football in India and is likely to pave the way for more interactions between international football icons and Indian fans, strengthening the country’s connection to the sport on a global scale. Overall, Solskjaer’s visit has left a lasting impression on Indian fans and has cemented his personal connection with the devoted football community in the country.

The event has been an extraordinary success for the fans and for Solskjaer himself, defining his visit as a memorable and cherished moment in his life. His personal connection with Indian fans is a testament to the widespread impact of football and the unifying power of sports across cultures.
