On the 17th floor of a multi-story building on the Strand Road in Kolkata, West Bengal‘s capital, the death toll from the horrific fire has risen to 9. 4 firemen are also among those who died. Apart from this, two railway personnel and a police ASI are also involved.

After getting information about the incident, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived here at night. The Chief Minister announced that the state government will provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of each deceased and a government job to a near family of each deceased.

According to the information received, the fire broke out on the 13th floor of the building at around 6.10 pm on Monday evening. There is also a computerized ticket booking center on the ground floor of the building.

PM Narendra Modi announced compensation

On behalf of the Prime Minister’s Office, it was announced that from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, Rs 2-2 lakh will be provided to the family of the deceased as help. At the same time, 50 thousand rupees will be provided to the seriously injured people.

Expressing grief over the incident, PM Narendra said, ‘I am sad to hear about the people who lost their lives in the fire in Kolkata. My condolences to those families in this difficult time. I hope for the recovery of the injured soon. ‘

At the same time, on the incident, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that high-level orders have been given for investigation. He said that all possible help will be provided by the Center to the state government.
